Salamander Pumps are an industry-leading manufacturer of domestic water and shower pumps. Over the years we have worked with their marketing team to deliver outlying digital products, launch promotional material for new products, brand wide advertising and their comprehensive sales brochure.

In early 2022 we were invited to discuss an update to the main Salamander website, and were were thrilled to continue our relationship with Salamander and breathe new life into their online home.

The project was broken down into several key phases, mainly due to the fact that the site was a legacy platform with several moving parts. A large aim for the project was to simply improve the UX and UI so that customers can access product and service information much more easily. A core aim was to ensure that three audience groups – homeowners, installers and specifiers could access as much information as possible via the website, rather than instantly calling customer service direct. This was a massive shift for Salamander, turning their online website into a far better customer support resource than it had previously been.

Beyond that the website offers a wide range of key features that all required careful consideration in terms of how they functioned both for the user and for the Salamander Pumps team.

This project is a good example of where discovery and understanding of the clients business, offering and audience were key to the success of the project. Before we even think about how the site may function, look or feel, it is essential that as a team we understand the product range and business processes. Having already produced a sales brochure, our design team had a good knowledge of the product range, however we carried out further discovery internally to ensure that everyone working on the project shared this knowledge. This, along with our UX and development expertise came together to produce a comprehensive digital platform that will serve Salamander for years to come.

The site includes many further features that we have developed across the course of this project. As part of the product area we have developed both a Product Selector and Product Comparison tool that allows users to filter down onto a product best suited for their needs. Beyond that there is a ‘Where to buy’ section that includes both a Find an Installer and a Find a Stockist search functionality that outputs results on google maps via a postcode search.

Warranty Registration was another large part of the brief, and a fresh approach to the UI and UX of this area has now made registering products an easier task for both installers and homeowners. Finally the site also includes an installer Loyalty Program that allows installers to record their purchases and receive rewards based on a point system. Both of these sections also have to communicate with internal Salamander Pumps software and CRM systems.

We identified that we needed a new website to better support a digital customer experience, promote new products, and reach all key audiences online with relevant content to meet their needs. We also wanted to take the opportunity to implement a more modern fresh look and feel.

After careful consideration of potential partners we chose Cargo as we felt that they very clearly understood our brand, business and objectives for the new website…we definitely made the right choice.

The ideas, project management and communication delivered by the team at Cargo has been exceptional and the end result was exactly what we were looking for. The new website was delivered in a timely manner to an extremely high standard.
