Brand and Brand Framework

IDP – a multidisciplinary architectural practice based in the North of England required a brand update and framework to support them as the practice moved into the next phase of their development. Originally set up in 1982 as ‘The Smith Darby Partnership’, a move to ‘Ian Darby Partnership’ followed in 1989. Ian Darby has since retired, and the practice is now looking to be recognised simply as IDP.

Working with other creatives is always enjoyable, as there is a mutual respect for each others’ specific disciplines. As a creative you know when when you walk into your first meeting and sit in a beautiful workspace, where the boardroom table is covered in Magic Markers and hand drawn site plans that you are going to instantly click.

We updated the brand marque with a new typeface and guidelines around its use, finalising a new colour palette and further assets as we went. Using inspiration from their workspace, we developed an illustrative approach and we then looked to explore how this could be integrated across all of the documentation that the practice uses on a day to day basis to ensure there is a clear, cohesive message across everything.

IDP are more than architects. They design and build communities. This was a common theme that resonated as we developed our work. It is important that they are seen as an approachable practice, and whilst they design modern, contemporary spaces where communities thrive, the brand was not to be ‘arrogant’ or too high end so that it wouldn’t be relatable.

All of the assets that we created were supplied to enable the team internally to easily update documents and work to a clear guide, again ensuring that consistency was achieved across the board and providing the team with everything from newsletters, sales documentation, stationary and social assets that will not only support but help drive their development over the coming years.
