10 Months In – My Experience As a Junior Digital Marketing Executive at Cargo

It turns out that time actually does fly when you’re having fun, as what feels like only a couple months working at Cargo, has actually been 10!
Having joined Cargo as a junior digital marketing executive in October last year, I have now been here for a whole 10 months, and what a journey it has been so far.

The beginning is the place to start…

Having graduated from Newcastle University last year, I was actively looking for a marketing role when I was sent the job advert for a Junior Digital Marketing Exec at Cargo. Having looked at the job description, I knew this role was exactly what I was looking, and within a few minutes into the interview, I knew that Cargo was the perfect fit for me. And luckily, I was a good fit for them!

Starting a new job is daunting for everyone, but the team were all so welcoming and helped me settle in quickly. Initially I was trained up on all things Cargo and was set smaller tasks to learn the ropes. I quickly learnt that although the search team is pretty small, we all work together at Cargo, and everyone is more than happy to help each other.

A learning curve…

Fast forward ten months, and it is safe to say I have learnt an incredible amount in such a short time. From performing technical SEO tasks, such as site crawls, to conducting keyword research, managing client socials, and writing search focused content for clients across a range of industries, my role has been very diverse and not one day has been the same.

From quite early on, I have been trusted with a lot of responsibility within my role, managing two retainer clients, and I have a lot of autonomy over my working days. As a search team, myself, and Justina, work very closely and we are always there to support each other, which has been a great.

The fun stuff…

As well as having a role that is interesting and enjoyable, I had some great experiences over the past ten months. At Cargo, we are encouraged to be the best we can be at our jobs, and if there is anything that can be done to accommodate our needs, such as attending training events, then they will do their best to make it happen. Justina and I were lucky enough to attend the two-day Brighton SEO conference in April thanks to Cargo. This was my first ever conference and I came away from the event having learnt so much about the industry that I didn’t know. More recently, I attended a training event held by another agency in Newcastle, which again was a great day of learning.

At Cargo we are a close knit team, and since starting in October, I have taken part in some great team building experiences, including (a slightly boozy) Bongo’s Bingo Christmas party, team lunches, after work drinks along the Fish Quay and paddle boarding in Cullercoats.

The future…

Enough about the past… it’s time to talk about the future, and I am definitely looking forward to seeing what it has in store for me, especially as Cargo is currently experiencing a great deal of growth, in terms of both our team, services offerings and client base. I am excited to be part of this growth phase and develop my career alongside the company!
