The New Facebook Graph Search Tool Goes Public

Posted on 17th January, 2013 in Social Media

After Facebook unveiled their plans to publicise the new ‘Graph Search’ tool, we at Cargo thought it best to do a little research on how this new product would benefit our Social Media clients and their business pages.

Over the last eight years Facebook have honed the art of pushing its users to share everything; not only do we share our personal lives in pictures that we upload, but we also share information of our whereabouts when we ‘check-in’, and provide details of our taste in music, clothes, our hobbies and other things of interest, by ‘liking’ the corresponding Facebook Fan pages.

By using the data we make public on our profiles, Facebook are introducing the ‘Graph Search’ tool, which gives users the opportunity to search for specific aspects of personal profiles “People who like cycling, who live in my city” or “Restaurants in London my friends have been too” are the kind of searches users could complete.
This tool was not only designed for the average Facebook user, but it also provides a great way of utilising information for Business Pages, who can be made more prominent within search results.

Marketeers will be able to search for their target market and advertise directly to those people who bear an interest in their products or services.

After reading the two articles below, it is clear that this ‘Graph Search’ tool could potentially be another great step for social media marketing in the ever growing Facebook business community.
